About Us

Type 1 Telehealth

The idea for Type 1 Telehealth was born when we listened to the collective needs of the T1D community and recognized the widespread dissatisfaction with traditional endocrinology while practicing in that setting ourselves. As individuals who have lived with T1D for decades, we understood the level of direct, personalized care we wanted to provide for people like us. Facing significant barriers such as patient quotas and overbooked schedules, we realized our patients deserved more.

We founded Type 1 Telehealth to offer truly individualized care, with sufficient time to address all patient needs—delivered from the comfort of your home and at times that fit your schedule. We truly understand that type 1 diabetes is a balance between diabetes management and everyday life. We are excited to have the opportunity to provide the kind of care we would want for ourselves.

Meet Our Providers

Savannah Elkins, MPAS, PA-C

Savannah Elkins, MPAS, PA-C, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes more than 20 years ago, an experience that shaped her desire to pursue a career in medicine and care for others living with the same condition. The exceptional care she received from her endocrinology team inspired her to follow in their footsteps and dedicate her work to supporting patients with diabetes.

Originally from The Woodlands, Texas, Savannah completed high school at 16 before earning her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Texas A&M University. She spent a summer as a counselor at Texas Lions Camp, where she had once been a diabetes camper herself. She went on to earn her Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies from The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth, balancing motherhood, academics, and her role as PA Student Association President. She graduated with Scholarly Excellence. During her time as a student, she served as a mentor and received specialized training in helping patients transition from pediatric to adult endocrinology. After graduation, she chose to specialize in endocrinology, caring for hundreds of patients and approaching medicine as both an art and a science—meeting individuals where they are, setting realistic goals, and empowering them with clear, accessible education about their conditions.

Outside of work, Savannah’s love of learning fuels a wide range of interests. She enjoys traveling, playing piano, tackling home renovation projects, running half marathons, and cultivating both houseplants and an outdoor garden. Above all, she treasures time with her husband and their two young boys, who remain at the center of her world.

Katie Wakeland, AG-ACNP

Katie Wakeland, MSN, APRN, AG-ACNP, has been dedicated to caring for others since becoming a registered nurse in 2015. She spent eight years working in the emergency department, where she learned the importance of meeting patients with compassion, clarity, and calm during some of their most difficult moments. Wanting to build deeper, long-term relationships with patients, she earned her master’s degree from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2021 and pursued a career in endocrinology.

Katie’s passion for her patients is deeply personal. She was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 11, an experience that has shaped both her life and her approach to patient care. She understands firsthand the daily challenges of managing a chronic condition and believes that education and support are key to helping patients feel confident and in control of their health. She has also volunteered with the American Diabetes Association and Cook Children’s summer camps, where she enjoys supporting children and families living with diabetes and helping create positive, empowering experiences.

As an advanced practice provider, Katie is committed to partnering with her patients, sharing knowledge, and encouraging active involvement in their care. Outside of helping patients, she loves spending time outdoors hiking and rock climbing, tending to her garden, and cooking at home with her son.
