First, we are providers who live with type 1 diabetes ourselves. This personal experience allows us to offer empathetic, informed care grounded in a deep understanding of how complex and demanding this chronic condition can be.
Second, after practicing for several years as a PA and NP in traditional endocrinology, we recognized that type 1 diabetes is complex enough to warrant its own sub-specialty. Type 1 Telehealth was created with that focus in mind—dedicated exclusively to caring for individuals with type 1 diabetes. We are committed to staying current with the latest advancements, technologies, and treatment approaches in type 1 diabetes management. By centering our practice on a single endocrinopathy rather than many, we are able to provide highly knowledgeable, specialized care.
Finally, our goal is to devote meaningful, focused time to each of our patients. We want every person we work with to fully understand their condition and the full range of treatment options available to help make life with type 1 diabetes simpler and more manageable. Our priority is quality of care, not quantity of patients.

As a small practice, we value clear and direct communication between patients and providers. All questions from established patients—whether related to scheduling, prescriptions, or medical concerns—are answered personally by Katie or Savannah within 48 hours through the patient portal.
During your visit, we’ll create a customized plan to help guide decision‑making for situations that may require more urgent attention. To ensure consistent, organized, and secure communication, all patient interactions between visits take place through the portal rather than personal phone numbers.

We’ve chosen not to participate with insurance companies, so we can focus fully on you—not paperwork. Insurance-based visits often require extensive documentation, strict billing rules, and short appointment times. By operating outside of insurance, we’re able to spend more time with each of you and provide more individualized, thoughtful care.
This approach allows for longer appointments without being rushed, personalized treatment plans tailored to your specific needs, direct communication with your provider, and fewer administrative barriers, so the focus stays on your health.
Most of our medical services are eligible expenses for Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA). Patients can use these pre-tax funds to pay for visits, which can help make care more affordable. We recommend checking with your plan administrator for specific eligibility details as some rules may apply.

Yes. If you have health insurance, we strongly encourage you to use your benefits to help reduce the cost of prescription medications, medical supplies, and lab work. With your consent, we will coordinate the necessary communication with pharmacies, DME companies, and laboratories for any orders we place.

After scheduling your appointment, you will receive a confirmation email and/or text message that includes a secure link to your telehealth visit. This link will also be available in your appointment reminder messages.
At the time of your scheduled appointment, please click the telehealth link a few minutes early to enter the virtual waiting room. Your provider will join the visit shortly.
If you experience any difficulty accessing the telehealth visit through your email or text message links, please send us a message through the patient portal. We will promptly assist you and provide a backup link if needed due to technical issues.

Most straightforward needs—such as prescription refills or brief questions between appointments—can be handled through the patient portal. To maintain consistent, organized, and secure communication, all interactions between visits occur through the portal rather than personal phone numbers. If your provider determines that a visit is necessary to fully address new symptoms or medical concerns, they may recommend scheduling an appointment.

Direct care is a healthcare model in which patients work directly with their specialty provider without insurance involvement for routine visits. This approach allows for more time, attention, and flexibility than is typically possible in insurance-based specialty care. This also means no outside referrals are required to see us allowing for more on-demand care.
In a direct care specialty practice, services are provided for a transparent, upfront fee rather than being dictated by insurance billing requirements. This enables your provider to focus on comprehensive evaluation, in-depth discussion of complex conditions, and highly individualized treatment planning.
Direct care does not replace health insurance, which may still be needed for hospitalizations, procedures, or other covered services. Many patients choose direct care to enhance their specialty care experience with more time, clarity, and personalized attention.

Our practice provides telehealth-based specialty care focused on very specialized endocrine conditions. During your visit, we take a comprehensive approach and consider how other health conditions may impact your endocrine care.
We are able to address concerns that are related to or influence your endocrine condition during telehealth visits on a patient by patient basis. However, we do not serve as a primary care practice, and conditions outside the scope of endocrinology or those requiring in-person evaluation should continue to be managed by your primary care provider or appropriate specialist.
When needed, we are happy to collaborate with your other healthcare providers and help coordinate care to ensure your treatment plan is safe, effective, and well integrated.
If you are unsure whether a specific concern is appropriate for our specialized telehealth visits, please send us a message and we are happy to guide you in the right direction.
